Illyana Rasputina, known as Magik, first appeared in Giant-Size X-Men #1 (May 1975) as a child but debuted as Magik in Uncanny X-Men #160 (August 1982). She is the younger sister of the X-Men's Colossus.
During a portion of her childhood she was trapped in the demonic realm of Limbo, where she learned sorcery and her mutant teleportation powers manifested. Her time in Limbo aged her rapidly and imbued her with demonic traits.
As Magik, she is a powerful sorceress and mutant with the ability to teleport herself and others across vast distances and even between dimensions. She wields the Soulsword, a weapon forged from her own soul, which disrupts magic and can harm mystical beings. She also has limited control over the demonic forces of Limbo.
Magik has been a member of various X-Men teams and related groups, frequently struggling with the duality of her mutant and demonic powers and her ongoing battle to control them.
