Mazinger Z is a fictional character featured in the manga and anime series of the same name, created by Go Nagai. The character is a giant super robot piloted by Koji Kabuto.
Mazinger Z first appeared in *Weekly Shonen Jump* in 1972. The story follows Koji as he uses Mazinger Z to battle the mechanical beasts of Dr. Hell, a mad scientist seeking to conquer the world.
The robot is unique in that it's piloted from within, a departure from earlier giant robot stories. Mazinger Z is composed of "Super Alloy Z," making it virtually indestructible. The character has become an icon of Japanese popular culture, influencing numerous other mecha anime series.
