Hanamichi Sakuragi is the protagonist of the popular basketball-themed manga and anime series, Slam Dunk. He first appears in the first episode of the anime, titled "The Genius Basketball Man is Born!".
Initially a delinquent with a long history of unrequited love, Hanamichi joins the Shohoku High School basketball team to impress Haruko Akagi, a girl who is passionate about the sport.
