The Foot Soldiers are the generic, often nameless, ninjas employed by the Shredder in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise. They serve as the primary antagonistic force the Turtles combat. Initially appearing as highly skilled ninjas in the original Mirage Studios comic book, their depiction evolved in subsequent adaptations.
In the popular 1987 TMNT cartoon series, the Foot Clan's competency was significantly diminished. The Foot Soldiers were often portrayed as bumbling and easily defeated, serving largely as comic relief. These particular Foot Soldiers were not human, but rather robotic, making their destruction less morally problematic for a children's television audience.
Their first appearance in the cartoon was in the first episode "Turtle Tracks" of the first season.
