Orochimaru is a major antagonist in the *Naruto* manga and anime series. He first appears in Chapter 45 of the manga and Episode 27 of the anime as a mysterious figure in the Forest of Death during the Chunin Exams.
Initially a prodigious ninja of Konohagakure under the Third Hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi, Orochimaru was driven by a desire to learn all jutsu and achieve immortality. This obsession led him down a dark path, experimenting on others and pursuing forbidden techniques.
He defected from Konoha and became a rogue ninja, forming his own village, Otogakure (Village Hidden in Sound). His ultimate goal is to master the ultimate jutsu and achieve immortality by transferring his consciousness into new bodies. He is known for his snake-like appearance and abilities, reflecting his affinity for snakes and his experimentation on himself.
