John Kramer, also known as Jigsaw, is the central antagonist of the *Saw* franchise. A former civil engineer diagnosed with terminal cancer, he becomes a vigilante who abducts people he deems to be wasting their lives and subjects them to deadly "games" or "tests." These elaborate traps are designed to teach his victims the value of life through pain and suffering.
Jigsaw doesn't see himself as a murderer; instead, he views himself as a catalyst for change, forcing people to make choices that will either lead to their survival or their demise. He is known for his meticulous planning, engineering skills, and the use of audio-visual recordings to deliver his messages to his victims.
Jigsaw's first appearance was in the movie *Saw* (2004), though his face is not revealed until the end. Tobin Bell portrays John Kramer/Jigsaw throughout the main series of films.
