Lando Calrissian (Bespin), a key character in the Original Trilogy of *Star Wars*, first appeared in *The Empire Strikes Back* (Episode ). He is portrayed by Billy Dee Williams.
At the time of *The Empire Strikes Back*, Lando is the Baron Administrator of Cloud City, a tibanna gas mining colony on the planet Bespin. He's depicted as a charismatic and smooth-talking businessman and gambler.
Though initially betraying Han Solo and his companions to the Galactic Empire under duress from Darth Vader, Lando quickly redeems himself. He facilitates their escape, helping Leia Organa and Chewbacca flee Cloud City while also rescuing Luke Skywalker.
His role in the Rebellion grows, as he later joins the fight against the Empire, ultimately playing a crucial part in the Battle of Endor in *Return of the Jedi* piloting the Millenium Falcon.
