Mara Jade Skywalker is a prominent character in the Star Wars Expanded Universe, first appearing in Timothy Zahn's 1991 novel, *Heir to the Empire*. She is a skilled Force-user with a complex history.
Originally, Mara served as the Emperor's Hand, a personal assassin and enforcer of Emperor Palpatine. Trained in combat and the Force, she carried out his secret missions with ruthless efficiency. Before his death at Endor, the Emperor psychically commanded her to kill Luke Skywalker.
Following the Emperor's demise, Mara struggled with the lingering command and eventually joined the smuggling organization run by Talon Karrde. Over time, her path crossed with Luke Skywalker's, leading to an uneasy alliance and eventually, a deep romantic relationship. They marry and have a son, Ben Skywalker.
Mara becomes a Jedi Master, a respected member of the New Jedi Order, and plays a vital role in protecting the galaxy. Her character embodies redemption, demonstrating the ability to overcome a dark past and embrace the light side of the Force.
