Jessica Jones, also known as Jewel, is a character popularized by the Marvel Cinematic Universe through the Netflix television series Jessica Jones. Although her comic book origin predates the show, the modern age depiction is now heavily influenced by Krysten Ritter's portrayal.

Jessica's backstory involves a traumatic event where her family was involved in a car accident with a military convoy carrying radioactive materials. This exposure granted her superhuman strength, enhanced durability, and limited flight capabilities.

Following the accident, Jessica was briefly in a coma. Upon awakening, she struggled to control her powers and fit into a normal life. Her path took a dark turn when she encountered Kilgrave (Purple Man) who exploited his mind-control abilities to manipulate and abuse her. This period is central to her character arc, leading to severe PTSD and a cynicism that defines her persona.

Post-Kilgrave, Jessica established Alias Investigations, a private investigation agency where she uses her abilities to help others, often those who are vulnerable or overlooked by the conventional justice system. Her character is complex, marked by trauma, resilience, and a reluctant heroism.
