Nathaniel Essex, better known as Mr. Sinister, is a Marvel Comics supervillain, primarily associated with the X-Men. He first appeared in Uncanny X-Men #221 (September 1987).
Essex was a brilliant 19th-century biologist obsessed with evolution and genetic mutation. He conducted unethical experiments, leading to his transformation into the powerful, long-lived Mr. Sinister by Apocalypse.
