Betelgeuse, more commonly known as Beetlejuice, is a bio-exorcist, a freelance "ghost with the most," specializing in scaring the living.
He first appeared in the 1988 horror-comedy film *Beetlejuice*, portrayed by Michael Keaton. Beetlejuice is summoned by recently deceased Barbara and Adam Maitland to rid their home of the Deetz family.
The success of the film spawned an animated TV show, *Beetlejuice*, further cementing the character's popularity. While still a mischievous spirit, the cartoon version presents a more kid-friendly and even occasionally heroic Beetlejuice, often teaming up with his living best friend, Lydia Deetz.
