Biography:
Courtney Whitmore, known as Stargirl, is a superheroine in the DC Universe. She's the stepdaughter of Pat Dugan, formerly Stripesy, the sidekick to the original Star-Spangled Kid, Sylvester Pemberton.
Courtney initially resented Pat and their move to Blue Valley, Nebraska. However, upon discovering Pemberton's Star-Spangled Kid suit and the powerful Cosmic Staff, she adopted the identity of Stargirl to rebel and annoy her stepfather. She soon embraced the role, fighting crime and upholding justice.
The Cosmic Staff, granting her flight, energy projection, and starbolt abilities, chooses its wielder. While Courtney wasn't the intended recipient, her strong will and inherent goodness allowed her to master its power. She joined the new Justice Society of America (JSA) alongside Pat, who built a giant robot named S.T.R.I.P.E. to aid her.
