Morty Smith is a central character in the animated television show Rick and Morty. He first appeared in the show's pilot episode, "Pilot," which premiered on December 2, 2013.

Morty is a somewhat dim-witted, anxious, and impressionable teenager who is frequently dragged on dangerous and bizarre adventures across the multiverse by his eccentric and alcoholic grandfather, Rick Sanchez. He serves as Rick's sidekick and often acts as a moral compass, questioning Rick's reckless and nihilistic behavior.

Despite his initial naivety, Morty gradually becomes more aware of the vastness and absurdity of the universe, leading to a degree of emotional growth and complexity over the course of the series. He grapples with existential themes and often finds himself in situations that force him to confront difficult moral choices.
