General Zod, portrayed by Michael Shannon, is a Kryptonian military leader in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). He first appears in the film Man of Steel.

Driven by a fierce loyalty to Krypton, Zod attempts to overthrow the Kryptonian Council to prevent the planet's destruction. His failed coup leads to his imprisonment in the Phantom Zone.

Escaping the Phantom Zone after Krypton's destruction, Zod arrives on Earth seeking to terraform the planet into a new Krypton, believing this is the only way to preserve his race. He confronts Superman, leading to a devastating battle that ultimately ends with Superman killing Zod to save humanity.
