General Zod, portrayed by Michael Shannon, is a Kryptonian military leader in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). He first appears in the film Man of Steel.

Born on Krypton, Zod was a soldier genetically engineered to protect the planet. Believing Krypton's governing council to be corrupt and leading the planet to ruin, Zod attempted a coup, resulting in his and his followers' imprisonment in the Phantom Zone.

Escaping the Phantom Zone after Krypton's destruction, Zod sought out Kal-El (Superman) on Earth, intending to terraform the planet into a new Krypton. His unwavering dedication to Krypton's survival, even at the expense of Earth and its inhabitants, led to a devastating battle with Superman, ultimately ending with Zod's death.
