Taneleer Tivan, known as The Collector, is one of the Elders of the Universe within the Marvel Universe. He first appeared in Tales to Astonish #51 (January 1964).
Driven by a deep fear of a prophecy foretelling a great cosmic threat, The Collector dedicates his extraordinarily long life to amassing a vast collection of beings and artifacts from across the universe. He views these acquisitions as essential for repopulating the universe after a potential cataclysm.
His methods are often ethically dubious, as he frequently obtains items and beings against their will, displaying them in stasis within his museum-like headquarters. He believes that, because of his actions, the beings he collects are safe from harm.
