Silk Spectre is the alias of two characters appearing in the DC Comics series Watchmen. The first, Sally Jupiter, debuted in Watchmen #1 in 1986. She was a member of the Minutemen, a group of costumed adventurers active in the 1940s.
The second Silk Spectre is her daughter, Laurie Juspeczyk. Driven into the superhero lifestyle by her mother, Laurie also becomes a member of the Crimebusters team.
Later, in 1989, a "Girlpower" variant of Silk Spectre was released as a bendable figure by Toy Biz. This version highlighted her crime-fighting abilities and independent nature. This collectible sought to capitalize on the growing trend of strong female characters in media.
