Kratos is the protagonist of the God of War video game franchise. He first appeared in God of War in 2005. Initially a Spartan warrior, Kratos is tricked into killing his family by Ares, the God of War. This act curses him, permanently affixing the ashes of his family to his skin, earning him the title "Ghost of Sparta."

Driven by revenge, Kratos embarks on a quest to kill Ares. He succeeds and ascends to become the new God of War. However, his rage and thirst for vengeance lead him to further conflicts with the Olympian gods.

Later installments see Kratos travel to Norse mythology, attempting to live a peaceful life with his son, Atreus. He is constantly haunted by his past and forced to confront new enemies and challenges in the Norse realms. He is a brutal but complex character, grappling with his violent nature and attempting to become a better father.
