Flag-Smasher is a Marvel character first appearing in Captain America #312 (December 1985). There have been multiple characters to assume the identity, driven by anti-nationalist sentiments and seeking a world without borders.
The original Flag-Smasher was Karl Morgenthau, the son of a Swiss diplomat who was disillusioned after his father was murdered during a protest. He formed ULTIMATUM, an organization dedicated to abolishing nations and their flags, believing they are the source of conflict.
Later iterations of Flag-Smasher have continued this ideology, often employing violent methods to achieve their goals. The mantle has been taken up by others, each with their own personal motivations for opposing nationalism.
