The Master, as portrayed by Roger Delgado, is the original incarnation of the Doctor's arch-nemesis in the British science fiction TV show, Doctor Who. He is a renegade Time Lord who, like the Doctor, abandoned his home planet of Gallifrey. However, unlike the Doctor, the Master's motivations are typically driven by a desire for power and control over the universe.

Roger Delgado's Master first appeared in the 1971 story "Terror of the Autons" and quickly became a recurring villain throughout the Third Doctor's era. Delgado's portrayal of the Master was charming and charismatic, yet also undeniably menacing. He was often seen hatching elaborate schemes, employing advanced technology and hypnotic abilities in his pursuit of domination.

This version of The Master met his apparent end in the 1973 serial "Frontier in Space," although the character would later be resurrected and portrayed by numerous other actors in subsequent years.
