Sandman, also known as Flint Marko, is a Marvel Comics character who debuted in The Amazing Spider-Man #4 (September 1963) as a supervillain.
He gained his powers after falling into an experimental sand pit, bonding with the sand and gaining the ability to transform his body into sand, control sand, and alter his size and density.
Initially a criminal, Sandman's motivations have varied over the years, and he has sometimes been portrayed as an anti-hero, even briefly joining the Avengers. His primary adversary is Spider-Man, with whom he shares a complex history.
