Max Rockatansky, also known as Mad Max, is a prominent character in the post-apocalyptic action film franchise that began with the 1979 movie, Mad Max. He is primarily portrayed as a former Main Force Patrol officer in a dystopian Australia.
Initially, Max is driven by a desire for justice and the protection of his family from violent biker gangs. However, after suffering immense personal loss, he becomes a hardened survivor, wandering the wasteland in search of fuel, food, and basic necessities. His iconic Interceptor pursuit vehicle is his most prized possession.
In Mad Max: Fury Road, Max reluctantly joins forces with Imperator Furiosa on a Road Trip, helping her and a group of women escape the tyrannical Immortan Joe. Throughout his journey, he is haunted by his past, struggling with trauma and a need for redemption. While often acting alone, he sometimes forms reluctant alliances to survive in the brutal world.
