Tarantula is the alias of two distinct characters in the DC Comics universe. The first, and more prominent, is Catalina "Cat" Flores, a former FBI agent who became a vigilante in Blüdhaven. Frustrated by the limitations of the law, she adopted a brutal approach to crime fighting, often employing violence and deadly force.

Cat's methods frequently put her at odds with Nightwing, the city's primary protector. Their relationship was complex, marked by both attraction and conflict, culminating in a controversial storyline where she manipulated and sexually assaulted him. This event has significantly shaped her legacy within the DC universe.

The other Tarantula is Jonathan Law, introduced decades prior to Cat. He was a Golden Age hero, a skilled martial artist and acrobat who fought crime wearing a distinctive costume with suction cups on his boots, allowing him to scale walls. Law served in World War II and later became a mentor figure to younger heroes.

While both characters share the Tarantula name and a spider-themed motif, their personalities, methods, and overall impact on the DC universe differ greatly.
