The Lord of the Rings

Éowyn, Lady of Rohan, is a prominent character in J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings. She is the niece of King Théoden and sister of Éomer, inheriting a strong will and a desire for renown.

Residing in Meduseld, the Golden Hall of Rohan, Éowyn is burdened by her duties to her uncle and kingdom. She longs to escape her perceived cage of domesticity and participate in the battles for Middle-earth, yearning for a warrior's life and the honor found in combat.

During the War of the Ring, she disguises herself as a male soldier, Dernhelm, and rides with the Rohirrim to the Battle of the Pelennor Fields. There, she confronts and defeats the Witch-king of Angmar, fulfilling a prophecy that he would not be slain by any man.

Following the war, Éowyn is gravely injured and recovers in the Houses of Healing in Minas Tirith. There, she meets Faramir, the Steward of Gondor, and finds love and a new purpose beyond warfare. She eventually marries him and becomes the Princess of Ithilien, embracing a life of peace and healing.
