The Lord of the Rings

Éowyn is a fictional character from J.R.R. Tolkien's epic fantasy novel, *The Lord of the Rings*. She first appears in *The Two Towers* as the niece of King Théoden of Rohan and the sister of Éomer.

Orphaned in her youth, Éowyn is raised in Edoras, where she bears the responsibilities of caring for her ailing uncle. A skilled shieldmaiden, she yearns for glory and a life beyond the confines of her duty. However, she is constrained by societal expectations and her role as a lady of Rohan.

During the War of the Ring, Éowyn disguises herself as a male soldier, Dernhelm, and rides with the Riders of Rohan to the Battle of the Pelennor Fields. There, she confronts and slays the Witch-king of Angmar, fulfilling a prophecy that no man could kill him.

Following the war, Éowyn finds healing and love with Faramir, the Steward of Gondor. They marry and settle in Ithilien, where she finds fulfillment in creating a garden and a peaceful life, leaving behind the warrior's path.
