Erik Lehnsherr, also known as Magneto, is a prominent mutant character within the X-Men universe, particularly in the animated series X-Men '97. Born Max Eisenhardt, he is a Holocaust survivor who discovered his mutant abilities – control over magnetism – during a traumatic childhood.
Driven by his past persecution and a belief that mutants are superior to humans, Magneto often opposes the X-Men, advocating for mutant supremacy and separation. He views human society as inherently hostile and seeks to protect mutants, even if it requires violence or subjugation.
