Uruk-Hai, in the context of Middle-earth, are a superior breed of Orc bred by Sauron during the late Third Age. They first appear in *The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers*.

Unlike common Orcs, Uruk-Hai are able to tolerate sunlight, making them much more effective soldiers. They are larger, stronger, and more disciplined than their smaller Orc counterparts.

Sauron bred Uruk-Hai to create a more formidable fighting force. He accomplished this by crossbreeding Orcs with Men.
