Biography:
The Goblin Scribe is a minor but memorable character in J.R.R. Tolkien's *The Hobbit*. He appears in the depths of the Misty Mountains, within the goblin city, where Bilbo Baggins and the dwarves are captured.
His primary function is to record the names of the prisoners. He is described as a large, fat goblin, hunched over a ledger and wielding a quill. He seems to hold a position of authority, evidenced by his meticulous record-keeping and the fear the other goblins display towards him.
Although he doesn't participate in any direct combat or have a significant plot impact beyond the immediate capture and record of the company, the Goblin Scribe represents the bureaucratic and organized, albeit sinister, nature of the goblin society. His role highlights the regimented evil within the goblin city before the dwarves are eventually rescued by Gandalf.
