Biography:
Kratos is the protagonist of the *God of War* video game franchise. He first appeared in *God of War* on the PlayStation 2 in 2005.
Born in Sparta, Kratos was a respected and formidable warrior who rose through the ranks of the Spartan army. To achieve victory in a crucial battle, he pledged himself to Ares, the Greek God of War. Ares granted him immense power, but also tricked him into killing his own wife and daughter.
Haunted by this tragedy, Kratos renounced his servitude to Ares. The ashes of his family remained adhered to his skin, giving him his signature white complexion and the title "Ghost of Sparta." He then embarked on a quest for vengeance against Ares and the other Olympian Gods, fueled by rage and a desire to escape his past.
Later in his life, after the events that transpired in Greece, Kratos leaves for Midgard, and the Norse lands. Now a much more mature, reserved and collected man, he seeks to leave his old life behind and live peacefully. He marries and has a son, Atreus, who he must protect and guide.
