Captain Universe is a Marvel Comics character embodying the Uni-Power, a force from another dimension that bonds with individuals in moments of crisis to grant them immense cosmic abilities. The Uni-Power chooses hosts based on need and worthiness, transforming them into Captain Universe.
The first appearance of Captain Universe was in Micronauts #8 (October 1979). Over the years, many different characters have become Captain Universe, including Spider-Man, the Hulk, and Invisible Woman, each wielding the Uni-Power for varying purposes.
When a host is bonded with the Uni-Power they are granted abilities such as super strength, flight, cosmic awareness, energy projection, and matter manipulation. The Uni-Power’s purpose is usually to resolve some sort of crisis or threat to the universe, and once the situation is resolved, the Uni-Power departs, leaving the host as they were before.
