Initially portrayed as a villain, Ares often clashed with his half-brother Hercules and Thor. Possessing superhuman strength, durability, and battle prowess, he is a formidable opponent.
Over time, Ares's character evolved. He joined Norman Osborn's Dark Avengers, serving as their version of Wonder Woman. This version of the character was more complex, seeking to channel his warlike nature in a controlled manner.
His tenure with the Dark Avengers ended violently, leading to his death. However, as a god, death is often not permanent, and Ares has returned in various storylines since.
