Scientist Dalek, appearing primarily in the 2005 Doctor Who episode "Dalek," is a genetically engineered Dalek tasked with scientific research and development within the Dalek Empire. Unlike standard battle Daleks, the Scientist Dalek possesses specialized knowledge and equipment, including manipulator arms designed for intricate experiments.

Captured by Henry van Statten, the Scientist Dalek, dubbed "the Metaltron" by its captor, is subjected to extensive experimentation. This confinement and isolation lead to introspection, causing it to question its core programming and purpose.

The Dalek attempts to extrapolate its programming, including expressing logical conclusions from scientific principles to determine the best course of action to exterminate the Doctor and anyone in the vicinity. It demonstrates advanced intelligence and analytical skills, and is able to communicate information and command others.

Ultimately, despite its unique position and temporary internal conflict, its ingrained hatred of non-Dalek life reasserts itself, driving it to unleash its destructive potential and attempt to propagate the Dalek race once more. The Scientist Dalek's existence highlights the rigid nature of Dalek ideology and the difficulty, if not impossibility, of altering their fundamental drive for universal domination.
