Madame Masque, alter ego of Whitney Frost, is a complex character in the Marvel Universe. She first appeared in Tales of Suspense #97 (January 1968).
Born Giulietta Nefaria, she's the daughter of Count Luchino Nefaria, a powerful criminal mastermind. To protect her from his enemies, he placed her with the wealthy industrialist Byron Frost, who raised her as Whitney Frost.
She initially led the Maggia, a powerful criminal organization, and became known for wearing a distinctive golden mask to hide scarring she received during a battle. Whitney's life is complicated by her on-again, off-again relationship with Iron Man, whose alter ego, Tony Stark, she has both loved and hated. She struggles to break free of her father's criminal influence.
Madame Masque's criminal activities often involve advanced technology, espionage, and manipulation. She's a formidable strategist and combatant, making her a dangerous adversary for many Marvel heroes.
