Wanda Maximoff, portrayed by Elizabeth Olsen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), is a complex and powerful character whose arc takes a dark turn in Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Her first appearance in the MCU was in a minor role in Captain America: The Winter Soldier (post-credit scene) before having a more prominent role in Avengers: Age of Ultron.
Consumed by grief over the loss of Vision, Wanda's latent magical abilities, amplified by the Mind Stone, manifest as the Scarlet Witch. Driven by an intense desire to reunite with her children, Billy and Tommy, whom she conjured into existence during the events of WandaVision, she becomes the primary antagonist in Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Obsessed with the idea of a reality where she can truly have her children, Wanda seeks to steal America Chavez's power, the ability to travel the multiverse. This leads her to brutally hunt Chavez across dimensions, leaving a trail of destruction, including the massacre of the Illuminati of Earth-838.
Ultimately, Wanda confronts the darkness within herself and the horrors she has inflicted. She sacrifices herself to destroy the Darkhold, the source of much of her corruption, ending the threat to the multiverse and, potentially, finding redemption.
