Heimdall, portrayed by Idris Elba in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), is a pivotal character within the Thor film series. He is the all-seeing, all-hearing gatekeeper of Asgard, stationed at the Bifrost Bridge, a rainbow bridge used to travel between realms.
In the MCU, Heimdall possesses enhanced senses allowing him to see and hear across vast distances, and to perceive the very souls of individuals. He is fiercely loyal to Asgard and its royal family, particularly Thor. He first appeared in the 2011 movie, Thor.
Heimdall's role evolved throughout the films. He defies Odin's orders when he believes Thor is in danger, demonstrating his strong moral compass.
