Biography:
Johann Schmidt, more famously known as Red Skull, is a prominent antagonist in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. First appearing in 2011's Captain America: The First Avenger, he is portrayed by Hugo Weaving.
Schmidt was the head of HYDRA, a secret Nazi science division, during World War II. He sought to harness the power of the Tesseract to create advanced weaponry and achieve world domination, ultimately aiming to surpass even Adolf Hitler's ambitions.
His pursuit of power led him to inject himself with an imperfect version of the Super-Soldier Serum, resulting in his grotesque, skull-like appearance. During a confrontation with Captain America over the Tesseract, Schmidt was seemingly disintegrated by its power and transported to Vormir.
Years later, it was revealed that the Tesseract's power had transformed him into the keeper of the Soul Stone on Vormir, forced to guide others seeking its power, as seen in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, where he was portrayed by Ross Marquand.
