Biography:
Jack Torrance, portrayed by Jack Nicholson, is a fictional character primarily known from the horror film "The Shining" (1980), directed by Stanley Kubrick. This is his first appearance.
Torrance is a struggling writer and recovering alcoholic who takes a job as the winter caretaker at the isolated Overlook Hotel in the Colorado Rockies. He hopes the solitude will allow him to focus on his writing.
As the winter progresses, Jack's mental state deteriorates due to the hotel's sinister influence, isolation, and his own inner demons. He becomes increasingly irritable, volatile, and ultimately descends into madness.
His personality shifts from a seemingly ordinary man with ambitions to a violent and deranged figure, threatening his wife, Wendy, and son, Danny. He is, arguably, the main antagonist.
