Sheev Palpatine, also known as Darth Sidious, was a central figure in the Star Wars saga, serving as the primary antagonist throughout the prequel and original trilogies, as well as the sequel trilogy.
Born on Naboo, Palpatine secretly trained as a Sith Lord under Darth Plagueis, learning the ways of the dark side of the Force. He publicly rose through the political ranks of the Galactic Republic, becoming a senator and eventually Chancellor.
Palpatine orchestrated the Clone Wars, manipulating both the Republic and the Separatists, a Confederacy of Independent Systems, as a means to seize power. He played both sides of the conflict, ultimately leading to the demise of the Jedi Order and the transformation of the Republic into the Galactic Empire, with himself as Emperor.
As Emperor, Palpatine ruled with an iron fist, crushing dissent and expanding the Empire's reach. He relentlessly sought to eliminate the Jedi Order and solidify his control over the galaxy. His ultimate goal was to achieve immortality and absolute power through the dark side of the Force.
Palpatine's machinations and dark side abilities made him a formidable foe, ultimately leading to his (temporary) downfall at the hands of his apprentice Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker, as well as Rey, the last Jedi.
