Biography:
Ivan Vanko, portrayed by Mickey Rourke, is the primary antagonist in the Marvel Cinematic Universe film Iron Man 2. He makes his first and only appearance in this film.
Vanko, a brilliant but embittered Russian physicist and engineer, seeks revenge on the Stark family, believing they wronged his father, Anton Vanko. Anton Vanko helped Howard Stark to build the Arc Reactor. Vanko constructs a suit powered by an arc reactor. This includes electrified whips which he uses as weapons. This is the Whiplash Mk II armor, as it is a modified and more powerful version of his original design.
Driven by his desire for vengeance, Vanko targets Tony Stark, challenging his technological supremacy and threatening his life. He ultimately confronts Iron Man in a climactic battle alongside a drone army. During this battle, Whiplash is defeated, sacrificing himself in an attempt to take Iron Man with him.
