James Buchanan "Bucky" Barnes, known as the Winter Soldier, is a prominent character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
He first appeared in Captain America: The First Avenger (2011) as Steve Rogers' childhood best friend. Initially portrayed by Sebastian Stan, Bucky enlists in the army alongside Steve, serving with distinction.
During a mission, Bucky falls from a train, presumed dead, but is captured and experimented on by HYDRA. He is brainwashed and given a cybernetic arm, transforming him into the Winter Soldier, a highly skilled assassin.
As the Winter Soldier, Bucky operates for decades, carrying out numerous assassinations. He is eventually freed from HYDRA's control and begins a path to redemption, grappling with his past and seeking to atone for his actions. He then begins using the name White Wolf while living in Wakanda.
