James Buchanan "Bucky" Barnes is a character from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He first appeared in *Captain America: The First Avenger* (2011).
Bucky was Steve Rogers' best friend growing up in Brooklyn. During World War II, he served in the 107th Infantry Regiment and was presumed dead after falling from a train during a mission to capture Arnim Zola.
However, Bucky survived but was captured by HYDRA. They experimented on him, granting him enhanced strength, agility, and reflexes. He was then brainwashed and transformed into the Winter Soldier, a highly skilled and ruthless assassin. For decades, he was used by HYDRA to carry out covert operations and assassinations.
Eventually, Captain America helped Bucky regain his memories and break free from HYDRA's control. He then struggled with his past and sought redemption, working to atone for his actions as the Winter Soldier. Later, he became known as the White Wolf, helping the people of Wakanda alongside Steve Rogers, and he later carried the mantle of Captain America at times.
