Psylocke, originally known as Elizabeth "Betsy" Braddock, first appeared in Captain Britain #8 in December 1976, as a supporting character.
She is a mutant with telepathic and telekinetic abilities. Initially, she was portrayed as a British woman. She would become a core member of the X-Men.
In a controversial storyline, her mind was transferred into the body of a Japanese ninja assassin named Kwannon, resulting in her iconic appearance and enhanced fighting skills. This version of Psylocke is most recognizable for her purple hair, psychic katana, and martial arts prowess.
