James Howlett, better known as Wolverine, is a mutant character appearing in Marvel Comics. Born in the late 19th century in Alberta, Canada, he possesses several extraordinary abilities.
Chief among these is a regenerative healing factor, allowing him to recover from virtually any injury, slowing his aging process dramatically. Wolverine also possesses enhanced senses, strength, and reflexes, and is a formidable hand-to-hand combatant.
His skeleton is bonded with Adamantium, an virtually indestructible metal, and he possesses retractable bone claws in each hand which are also coated in Adamantium. He has been affiliated with various superhero teams including the X-Men, Alpha Flight, and the Avengers.
Wolverine’s long lifespan and brutal experiences have resulted in a complex and often conflicted personality. While fiercely loyal and protective of his allies, he is also prone to rage and is often portrayed as a loner.
