Darth Caedus, formerly known as Jacen Solo, is a complex and tragic figure within the Star Wars Expanded Universe, primarily featured in the Legacy of the Force book series. He is the son of Han Solo and Leia Organa Solo, and the nephew of Luke Skywalker. He first appeared as a child in the 1991 novel Heir to the Empire.
Initially trained as a Jedi Knight, Jacen possessed a deep connection to the Force and a strong desire to understand its nuances. However, his experiences during the Yuuzhan Vong War profoundly impacted him, leading him down a dark path. He sought power and believed extreme measures were necessary to ensure galactic security.
His descent culminated in his embracing the Sith identity of Darth Caedus. As Caedus, he became a ruthless and powerful figure, plunging the galaxy into another civil war. He justified his actions by claiming he was preventing a greater catastrophe, but his methods involved tyranny and betrayal. Ultimately, he was defeated and killed by his twin sister, Jaina Solo.
