Freddy Freeman is a fictional character appearing in DC Comics, primarily as a member of the Shazam Family. Originally introduced as a young, athletic newspaper delivery boy in Fawcett Comics' *Whiz Comics* #25 (1941), Freddy's life is forever changed when he's injured by Captain Nazi, archenemy of Captain Marvel (Shazam).
To save Freddy's life, Captain Marvel shares his powers with him, transforming Freddy into Captain Marvel Jr. Unlike Captain Marvel, Captain Marvel Jr. retains the appearance of a teenager while empowered and bears a striking resemblance to Elvis Presley. He gains superhuman strength, speed, flight, and invulnerability, among other abilities.
Throughout his history, Freddy has been a loyal ally to Captain Marvel, Shazam, and the Justice League. He has also sometimes operated independently, striving to protect the innocent and uphold justice. His character development has explored his struggles with responsibility and his desire to be a hero in his own right, independent of Captain Marvel's shadow. In later iterations, he temporarily wielded the full power of Shazam, becoming Shazam himself.
