Biography:
Captain Atom, also known as Nathaniel Adam, is a character appearing in DC Comics. He first appeared in Space Adventures #33 (March 1960), originally published by Charlton Comics.
Adam was a US Air Force test pilot who volunteered for an experiment to test the durability of an alien metal under extreme conditions. He was placed inside a dismantled alien spacecraft during an atomic explosion. Instead of being killed, Adam was fused with the metal, transforming him into a being of pure energy contained within a metallic shell.
As Captain Atom, Adam possesses powers like superhuman strength, flight, energy projection and absorption, and the ability to manipulate matter at a subatomic level. Over the years, the character has undergone several revisions, but his core origin and powers have remained largely consistent.
