The Real Ghostbusters is an American animated television series, a spin-off/sequel of the 1984 comedy movie Ghostbusters. The series ran from September 13, 1986 to October 5, 1991, and was produced by Columbia Pictures Television, DiC Animation City and Coca-Cola Telecommunications.
The series continues the adventures of paranormal investigators Dr. Peter Venkman, Dr. Egon Spengler, Dr. Ray Stantz, Winston Zeddemore, their secretary Janine Melnitz and their mascot ghost Slimer. "The Real" was added to the title after a dispute with Filmation and its Ghost Busters properties.

Dr. Raymond "Ray" Stantz is a fictional parapsychologist and one of the founding members of the Ghostbusters. He first appears in the movie *Ghostbusters* in 1984, portrayed by Dan Aykroyd.
Ray is characterized by his enthusiastic belief in the paranormal, his expertise in engineering and mechanics, and his generally optimistic and good-natured personality. He provides much of the technical know-how and equipment used by the Ghostbusters.
The animated series, *The Real Ghostbusters*, further expands upon Ray's character. He retains his core personality traits, and often serves as the heart of the team, maintaining their spirits even during difficult situations.
