Dr. Raymond Stantz, commonly known as Ray, is a fictional parapsychologist and one of the founding members of the Ghostbusters. He first appeared in the 1984 movie, Ghostbusters.
Played by Dan Aykroyd, Ray is portrayed as the heart of the team, possessing a childlike enthusiasm for the paranormal. His extensive knowledge of ghost lore and his belief in the supernatural often drive the Ghostbusters' investigations.
Along with Peter Venkman and Egon Spengler, Ray loses his university funding and establishes Ghostbusters, Inc., a paranormal investigation and elimination service. He is responsible for acquiring the iconic Ecto-1 vehicle and is instrumental in developing the Ghostbusters' equipment, including the proton packs.
