Black Lantern is a fictional character from DC Comics, primarily associated with the Green Lantern mythos. They aren't individuals in the traditional sense, but rather reanimated corpses of deceased individuals, powered by the Black Lantern Power Battery.
These Black Lanterns are brought back to a twisted parody of life by Nekron, the embodiment of death. Their purpose is to extinguish all life and bring the universe into a state of nothingness. Each Black Lantern is fueled by the emotional connections they had in life, manipulating the feelings of the living to generate power for the Black Lantern Corps.
Black Lanterns are immune to most forms of damage, including Green Lantern energy constructs. They can only be permanently destroyed by the combined power of multiple emotional spectrum energies or by severing their connection to their power rings. The Black Lantern Corps played a central role in the "Blackest Night" storyline, posing a significant threat to the entire DC Universe.
