Argus Filch is the caretaker of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, first appearing in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.
Filch is a Squib, meaning he was born into a wizarding family but lacks magical abilities. This fuels his resentment towards the students, especially those who break school rules. He spends much of his time patrolling the corridors, attempting to catch students misbehaving and eagerly longing for the days when he would have been allowed to use more severe punishments.
His constant companion is Mrs. Norris, a particularly nasty cat who aids him in his surveillance. Filch and Mrs. Norris are deeply devoted to each other.
